#LiterallyNoIdea What Just Happened...

So, some of you may know I have a crazy passion for dance. Most people call it an obsession. #sorrynotsorry I have danced for about 16 years doing everything from hip hop and jazz to stage combat and interpretive dance. I have yet to find something related to the art that I don't love. But it isn't really the steps or the music that I'm obsessed with. It's the feeling I get when I'm on stage, the feeling that I can do something that some people can't, the feeling that even though I'm still the chubby kid, all eyes are on me when I'm dancing and I feel like the most beautiful, sexy and confident person in the room. So, I ended up making a huge life change when I was 22 and opened my own dance studio so I can instill that same confidence and sass in the youth of today. (Knockout Dance Studio is on Instagram, YouTube and Facebook - end shameless plug.)

One of my New Year's resolutions (#hatethem #butdothemanyway) is to say "yes" more often. Another is to try new things. Another is to care less about what people think. Another is to lose some weight (for like, the fifth year in a row). Anyway, one of my friends, Johnny Blank, started his new business, Iron Allegiant. His goal is to bring our dance community together, showcase our talent and provide opportunities to our dancers. I am proud to support Johnny in his new business and give my dancers the opportunity to learn from him while taking a giant leap out of their comfort zone. #punintended

Only a few of my dancers were able to join me but I'm glad they did. When we walked in, the entire class was very inviting and made up of guys and girls. We warmed up on our own and began the choreography (or choreo for those of you who may not live and breathe dance). We learned the steps for 1, 2, 3, and 4 and I'm not going to lie, I felt pretty damn confident... Apparently the universe thought I needed an instant reality check and from about count 5 forward, I had #literallynoidea. The combo (mini dance) was awesome; it was pretty challenging, fast and looked great with the music... if you could do it with the music. Let's just say: I was humbled today. #haha

After about an hour and a half, we walked through the entire combo, separated into groups and prepared for the big finale: we were filming the combo to publish on social media...

Now, I'm not usually camera-shy but I #literally panicked and completely #froze. I forgot everything past the first four counts. I honestly can't remember what happened... or what I said... or if I actually moved. So there's that. At least I finished the video strong with a solid improv where I dropped to splits. #signaturemove

So, back to my New Year's resolutions: 1. Say "yes" more often. 2. Try new things. 3. Care less about what people think. I look back on today and I'm not going to lie (Is that the second time I've said that in this blog? After rereading, #yes.); I was pretty bummed with myself after failing with the choreo during the shoot. But! I said "yes" to going to the class; I tried a new thing (filming in a studio with strangers); and #eventually I was able to laugh off my awful attempt at Johnny's amazing choreo and just enjoy the experience.

I can't wait to see the ending video and share it with you all!

Here's to having #literallynoidea.
